THEISS LANDS 15-YEAR ABU DHABI AGGREGATE SUPPLY DEAL

Thiess Services Middle East is to supply recycled aggregate from construction and demolition waste for the first phase of Abu Dhabi’s Etihad railway network. The supply of the waste to Al Jaber Group follows a strategic agreement reached between Abu Dhabi Waste Management Centre (ADWMC) and Thiess Services Middle East (TSME). It covers a period of 15 years.
ETIHAD RAIL WASTE RECYCLING WILL SAVE 5 MILLION TRUCK KILOMETRES

Contractor Thiess Services Middle East (TSME) says that recycling waste construction and building
materials for the Etihad Rail project will save 5 million kilometres of truck journeys.
Etihad Rail is a $11 billion project that will create a rail network across the UAE. Work has already begun on
the first phase, a 266km stretch of rail in the Western Region that will be used to ship granular sulphur from
the Shah and Habshan fields to Ruwais.
TRACKS TO BE LAID ON RECYCLED MATERIAL

Abu Dhabi: The first phase of the Etihad Railway Network will use 750,000 tonnes of recycled material. Abu Dhabi's Centre of Waste Management has a 15-year deal with Thiess Services Middle East (TSME) for the construction and management of a recycling plant.

for a period of 15 years for the construction and management of a recycling facility for processing demolition and construction wastes, Thiess Services Middle
East will supply recycled aggregate from construction and demolition wastes in Al Dhafra to Al Jaber Group (AJG) so as to complete phase I of the project of the
Etihad Railway Network in Abu Dhabi.
FALL IN DEMAND HALTS RECYCLING PLANT

ABU DHABI // Work has come to a halt at the only recycling centre in the
capital that processes construction and demolition waste.
The Dh45 million plant near Abu Dhabi's main landfill in Al Dhafra has been
out of action since the end of November because of low demand for its end
product - material used for road construction and other infrastructure
projects.

The accelerated rate of growth witnessed by the UAE and the Middle East in general has left indelible footprints in terms of waste generation. The majority of the Gulf countries are ranked amongst the top ten worldwide in terms of waste production per capita. Reports suggest that of the approximately 120 million tonnes of waste currently produced in the GCC countries, 55 percent is construction and demolition waste, 20 percent municipal waste, 18 percent industrial waste, and 7 percent hazardous waste.
GOVERNMENT TO TACKLE DEMOLITION WASTE

ABU DHABI // The Government has funded two projects to tackle mountains of construction waste and giant piles of old tyres. A contract, for Dh1.1 billion (US$300 million), has been awarded to Thiess Services Middle East to build and operate a demolition waste facility in Abu Dhabi. Another to rebuild and operate an Al Ain recycling plant that is already capable of processing 20,000 tonnes of old tyres a year, went to Omnix Group. The two projects will be handed back to the Government at some point in the future. It is not clear when work on either project will be finished.
